On July 13, 2011, Ottawa's City Council approved the OAG Expansion and Arts Court Redevelopment Report. This is a significant step towards realizing a new municipal art gallery for Ottawa and expanding space for our arts and theatre community. A Tripartite Steering Committee (the Ottawa Art Gallery, Arts Court Foundation and the City of Ottawa) was created to oversee the project and KPMB Architects (Toronto) and Barry Padolsky Associates Inc. Architects (Ottawa) have been retained to oversee the detailed design phase.

Ottawa City Council has carried the motion for the Arts, Heritage and Culture Renewal Plan 2013-2018 proposed by the Arts & Heritage Steering Committee!
